Preparing For Your Boudoir Photography Session

boudoir photography session

Boudoir photography sessions are empowering, confidence boosting and all about seeing yourself in a whole new light! It’s scary and exciting all at the same time!

I have put together a quick checklist for your boudoir bag and a few pointers on how to prepare for your session.

Your Boudoir Bag Checklist

Outfits

It’s hard to narrow it down isn’t it? So, my advice, bring it all and we’ll go through it before we start the session.

Accessories

Again, bring anything you like but remember with a boudoir session, think ‘less is more’.

Simple jewellery, knee-high socks, stockings, oversized sweaters, your partners shirt, your wedding veil etc all make for great accessories. Oh and don’t forget those sexy shoes – even if you can’t walk in them, bring them along.

Moisturising

Bringing your moisturiser with you is a great idea! Bring your favourite but ideally avoid anything with shimmer or glitter.

Light Snacks

We’ll have snacks and fruit at the studio but maybe worth popping your favourite snack in your bag – just in case you get a bit peckish.

Preparing for your Boudoir Photography Session

4-6 Weeks before

Start planning your perfect boudoir outfits. Make sure they fit well and are comfortable, you do not want anything to dig into your skin or make unnecessary bulges.

Get out your favourite pieces you already own and make sure they fit, check out magazines and brands you love for inspiration. I’ll pop a link to some of my personal favourites below.

Go shopping!

You are looking for pieces you not only look good in, but also feel good in. Don’t be afraid to go outside your comfort zone, if a boudoir session isn’t the place to think outside the box, I don’t know what is!

How will you display your photos?

Start thinking about how you want to display your photos. An album or a folio box are my favourite ways to show off boudoir photos!

3-5 Days before

Now is the time to wax or shave and moisturise, remember to remove any hair you do not want to show in your photos.

Avoid spray tans or tanning lotions this close to your boudoir session. If you are used to fake tanning, please do it at least a week before your session, it is impossible to remove orange tan stains from hands and feet.

Drink plenty of water to hydrate your skin.

Please remove all price and sizing tags from your lingerie as they can show in the photographs. Even the permanent ones.

Do some stretching the days leading up to the shoot, I may be asking you to get into some rather awkward positions – a bit like a work-out (providing no injuries) so good to get that flexibility going.

1-2 Days before

Treat yourself to a fresh manicure! Ideally avoid bright colours, neutral colours work best.

Avoid alcohol and drink plenty of water to hydrate and plump your skin!

Moisturise your skin.

The night before

Go to bed early and get some rest. You will want to come to the session feeling energised and excited, not sleep deprived.

Pack your bag the night before to ensure you don’t forget anything.

Double check your list and relax.

Your Boudoir Photography Session Day

Moisturise your whole body, paying special attention to any dry patches, it will make your skin look radiant.

Wear loose fitting clothing and underwear to avoid marks on the skin.

Our boudoir sessions always take place in the morning so ensure you have breakfast to avoid any light headedness, a light meal will leave you satisfied but not bloated.

Allow plenty of time to get to the studio and aim to arrive a few minutes early. You’ll feel at ease and ready to rock your boudoir session!

Arrive at the studio with clean hair and a fresh, moisturised face and get ready to be pampered.
